How we get your OK to text

BuiltByTyler LLC · Monterey, California · text messages from our sales reps

Last updated 25 October 2026.

The only way anyone opts in

We text a business owner only after they say yes on a live phone call with one of our sales reps. There is no web form, keyword, paper form or QR code that signs anyone up, and we never buy or rent phone numbers to text. If you didn't say yes on a call, you won't get a text from us.

We send two kinds of texts, each only on that yes:

  • AI Receptionist. A link to our AI Receptionist demo and a number you can call to hear it answer, or, if you ask for it, the page to sign up.
  • Websites. A link to the demo website we made for your business, or, if you ask for it, the page to pay for it.

What happens on the call, step by step

  1. A BuiltByTyler rep calls your business's published phone number from their BuiltByTyler number, dialled by hand, and talks with you live. They start with their name and BuiltByTyler, and say why they're calling.
  2. Before any text, the rep asks in these exact words. For the AI Receptionist:
“Can I text you a demo of our AI Receptionist, with a number you can call to hear it answer? It's one text from BuiltByTyler, from this number. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, or STOP anytime to opt out. Our terms and privacy policy are at builtbytyler.com/terms and builtbytyler.com/privacy. OK if I send it?”
For a website demo, the first sentence is “Can I text you the link to the site we made for you to look at?” For a sign-up or payment page, it's “Can I text you the link to sign up?” The rest is word for word the same.
  3. Your yes on the call is the consent. No yes, no text.
  4. The rep types your own words of consent into our sales app. The app saves them with the date, time, your number and the rep's name, and only then sends one text to the number the rep just called, from the rep's BuiltByTyler number. If you ask for it again, the rep types in that yes too before it goes out again: one text per yes.

What the rep sees in our sales app

These are screenshots of the app our reps use, with example details (the business, the owner and the rep are made up).

The rep's sales app before texting: a button 'Text them the AI Receptionist demo' and, under it, the exact words the rep must say to ask for consent.
1. The script the rep reads on the call, shown right under the send button.
The consent form: 'What did they say?' with the owner's words 'Yeah, go ahead and text it to me', the owner's first name, the exact text that will be sent, and a 'Send the demo link' button.
2. The rep must type the owner's words of consent before the send button works. The exact text that goes out is shown and can't be edited.

What the texts look like

Hi Maria, it's Sam from BuiltByTyler, as promised. Here's our AI Receptionist. It answers your calls when you can't. See it handle calls for an example business: https://builtbytyler.com/demos/front-desk/ Or call (831) 230-2743 and talk to it yourself. Reply STOP to opt out.

Hi Maria, it's Sam from BuiltByTyler, as promised. Here's the website we made for Maria's Plumbing to look at: https://see.builtbytyler.com/marias-plumbing/ Reply STOP to opt out.

How often, what it costs, how to stop

  • How often: one text each time you say yes, usually one or two per conversation, plus replies to anything you text us.
  • Cost: we never charge for texts. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply.
  • Stop: reply STOP (or STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT) and you get one confirmation and nothing after. Your number also goes on our do-not-call list, so nobody at BuiltByTyler calls or texts it again.
  • Help: reply HELP, or email twade@builtbytyler.com.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

We never share, sell or rent your mobile number or your consent to anyone for marketing. Full details: privacy policy and terms.
